It's time for another visit with Mike Deverell and his Colorado Front Range Railroad. We pick up where we left off on our last visit as Mike describes using his new laser that he purchased in order to build structures specifically designed for his railroad.

We learn about Sears homes which were basically giant 1:1 shipped to a town by the railroad and constructed buy a local crew. He also describes extensively using flats to create city scenes that will be well lit during nighttime operations.

It’s another great visit with Mike that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Some say it’s the most realistic throttle for operating model diesel locomotives ever produced… We say it’s not a proven product until it passes the Shane test.

It’s been reported in some circles that modelers can operate just like a real engineer with the new ProtoThrottle because the controls feel and perform just like the prototype.

So take a listen while Model Railroad News editor Tony Cook and our very own Shane “the Young Gun” put this product to the test.

It’s part two of Blair Kooistra month here on the ‘ole AML Network, a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, Blair has made outstanding contributions to the photographic interpretation of North America's railroading. He’s photographed railroads extensively since high school and his work has been widely published, with 15 articles in the Trains magazine index and he was recognized in its 50th anniversary issue (November 1990).

He remains active as a photographer, concentrating on shortlines and heritage railroading and traveled twice to Australia where there is still access to facilities and railroaders.

“Overall Kooistra’s work is among the most significant railroad photography of the post-steam era,” writes Scott Lothes, president of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art

This is a bonus episode in the eighteen part Blair Kooistra trilogy as he describes in detail his stunning 27 minute black-and-white video tribute to the west end of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad and its employees, photographed during its last years of operation, 1977-1980.

Blair returned decades later to the Pacific Northwest to complete the stories of the people who made the Milwaukee Road special. This is a great companion piece to a video that makes railroading more romantic than Harlequin romance novel.

If it moves Blair will photograph it, he’s such an interesting guy we declared April, Blair Kooistra month at the ‘ole AML Network. He started out as a photojournalist had his first article in Trains magazine published before he was and now works as a dispatcher for the BNSF.

Living in Texas he decided it was only natural to Australian railroads but his Walla Walla Valley Railroad was featured in Great Model Railroads 2005. It’s another great interview and Blair is an interesting guy so enjoy!!
